Magic realism also known as magical realism or marvelous realism is a style of fiction and literary genre that paints a realistic view of the modern world while also adding magical elements, often deals with the blurring of the lines between fantasy and reality. The term magic realism is broadly descriptive rather than critically rigorous, and Matthew Strecher defines it as "what happens when a highly detailed, realistic setting is invaded by something too strange to believe. In Japanese literature , one of the most important authors of this genre is Haruki Murakami. The term first appeared as the German magischer Realismus 'magical realism'. In , German art critic Franz Roh used magischer Realismus to refer to a painterly style known as Neue Sachlichkeit 'New Objectivity' ,   an alternative to expressionism that was championed by German museum director Gustav Hartlaub. Roh believed that magic realism was related to, but distinct from, surrealism, due to magic realism's focus on material object and the actual existence of things in the world, as opposed to surrealism's more abstract, psychological, and subconscious reality.

I've played with the idea of using magical realism in my stories, but feared it world veer my historical romances far into the fantasy realm. But your writings, demonstrate that it doesn't have to. The concept of a magical realist testimonio may seem even more paradoxical, but similarities in the structure and goals of the two genres show how they may work well together. I found this curious, seeing as testimonio is an important aspect of Latin American culture, and promoting social justice.
